.io is assigned to the British Indian Ocean Territory, and is somewhat misused by computing people to mean input/output and used as a technology domain name. But it does have the added advantage of being nice and short/snappy.

      According to the rules, https://www.nic.io/rules.htm

      4. MANDATORY RULES FOR THIRD LEVEL DOMAINS
4.1 An applicant must be resident in the British Indian Ocean Territory.
While there are "special offers" for the first year or two, the costs to register this TLD are surprisingly high, with the official registrar quoting prices of $90 USD. From my own research the prices vary from 35-70 GBP. (45-90 USD) Which makes cost of ownership quite high long term, and out of the budget of my main target customers (personal and small businesses).

Therefore, personally, I'm not in favour of RSP offering them on the platform.
