  • Are swapfiles disabled on VPS ?

    Code:
    > sudo swapon /swapfile
swapon: /swapfile: swapon failed: Operation not permitted
Everytime I issue the above command to enable a temporary swap file, I get Operation not permitted. I have even tried to add it to /etc/fstab and no luck there ether, is it disabled on the container?

    Hello Clive,

It seems that bot Virtuozzo and OpenVZ virtualizations do not support swapon/swapoff.
And you are not able to use swapon/swapoff from within the VPS container.

      *chokes*

Just looked into adding extra RAM to see if that would solve my OOM issues. $30 for 512Mb, yet for an extra $10 I could upgrade to OZ02.

That makes no sense to me at all!!

Yes, I completely agree with you that it is a better idea to upgrade your VPS plan instead of purchasing an Additional RAM upgrade.

A 200Mb swapfile would have let me away I think. When fresh clam runs I seem to have a memory peak for some reason. The chart below is my memory usage over the past week.

Unfortunately, swapon/swapoff are not supported on both Virtuozzo and OpenVZ,
so I guess that an upgrade of your VPS plan will resolve your issue.
