AVG has kept me safe for the last three years with no problems so I would say stick to that, as for zone alarm, It gave me a lot of night mares and caused even more probblems when I uninstalled it. I cant remember the name of the firewall software I use as away on holiday using some one elses laptop, but I would recomend it, I'll post back when I'm back home.

I would use AVG. Most people have good luck with it.

I have never been a fan of all-in-one solutions and prefer to use separate firewall, anti-virus and anti-spyware applications. Also, I prefer to use open source or freeware applications for personal and non-commercial purposes whenever possible. I use Zone Alarm, Avira AntiVir PE Classic (a German anti-virus application), Spybot Search & Destroy and AdAware Personal as anti-spyware applications as well as a few other specialized and less popular system security applications. I have never had any problems with any of these applications. I have tried the ZoneAlarm Pro version (not the security suite, just the Pro version of the firewall application that included an anti-spyware module), but it bogged down my PC too much. I assume that it was due to some kind of incompatibility with either AntiVir PE or Spybot.
