How many character in Meta description?

Hi dear
How many characters does Google recommend in the Meta description? I have used more than 226 characters in Meta description for every pages in the site. Is really Meta description can affect on your site keywords ranking? Please give me suggestion, how many characters, I should use in Meta description?

not very sure how long, but most experts recommend within 160 words, but I counted on google search results, there are roughly 120+.

so, i assume the range is between 120 and 160.

Google accept 160 Character with White Space. For Yahoo you can create 180 to 200 Character.
