  • Microsoft Server 2003

You guys should allow the OS of Windows Server to be installed on dedicated servers and VPS's. I'm paying a company a ton of money to get one hosted, and I think it would be neat to offer it and I would most definitely pay for it. :-)

TylerGillen, it is not just about providing the hardware and reselling a Windows 2003 Server license. We also need to have technical support and system administrators trained to work in Windows 2003 Server environment. At the moment we do not have such specialists and do not plan to hire any in the near future.

      Milen,

If it would be of any help, I happen to be very well-versed in Windows Server 2003, for Web hosting environments. I am sure there are folks who know more than me, but about half of my degree coursework entailed working with Windows Server 2003 (B.S. in MIS). Please let me know if I could be of any help in getting this up and running (if it would be possible to help out remotely).

The Stealthy One, thank you for your help offer, but as you know I do not make decisions regarding the launch of new services. I will pass your help offer to the management team, perhaps they would get in touch with you, if they decide to launch Windows-based hosting services at some point in the future.

I am new to Resellers and to this forum and I have just been introduced to Mono (not the illness). I totally agree with the above business model. It takes unlimited resources to be everything to everybody. Better to do what you do best and do it better than anyone else. But, just because windoze servers are not available doesn't mean we have to do without.

Mono is an opensource, commercially supported, platform for ASP.Net functionality. I was pleasantly surprised to find that Debian already has Mono packaged and I just installed it on my home server. Seems to me to be an opportuniy to have the best of both worlds?

I was looking at it for more of like a Remote Desktop interface though but thanks for the link.

So far we have not received that many requests for providing ASP/ASP.Net support on our web hosting servers. I am not a developer myself, but according to one of our developers there is not anything that could be achieved using ASP/ASP.Net that could not be achieved by using PHP and/or Perl and/or Python. Our current plans do not include offering ASP/ASP.Net support on our hosting servers, but if demand for this option increases in the future, this position could be reconsidered, of course.

Count my request in for ASP/ASP.Net support on hosting account. Done by Mono or chilisoft asp, either way it would be a real bous.

If you add that to mine, that makes two requests. My sister lost her web host and I convinced her to host where I had my site. Now I wish I had been a 'reseller' before she needed a change. I'm thinking about moving my site here and I would like her to come with me except her graphics are asp based. I would have to completely redesign her site to use php, perl, etc. Resellers offers a lot of extras. I am using WebSite Baker, SMF, and would like to setup RoundCube Mail and could do all of that and more here. Everything I would need is available. Tempting.

I have spoken with one of our system administrators and and according to him, the Mono Project is still not reliable and functional enough in terms of ASP/ASP.Net support (not that Microsoft is making it any easier for the project developers, otherwise who would like to buy Microsoft's expensive server software licenses).

We have introduced RoundCube as an alternative webmail client just a few days ago . You can read the news about the release here.

Just a final note to confirm I have moved my web site to here, and am planning to move my sister's web site next. Mono, or a Mono like ap, would make it much easier. As it is, I will need to completely recreate her site.

I am sorry, but our system administrators still have not changed their opinion about the reliability and functionality of the project Mono.
