  • mod_rewrite supported?

Is mod_rewrite supported on the shared hosting here?

  • #2
mod_rewrite is supported but some of the functionality of this mod has been restricted, due to security reasons.

More specifically: "Options" are not allowed.

Thanks for the response! Ok, here's why I ask. Hopefully you can answer this for me too!

Someone has requested free forum hosting, and would allow ads back to *************** - they have a very large forum site, so I am very interested in this. Is mod_rewrite functionality enabled enough to be able to insert the banners at the top of each page of the forum? Or, because Options are turned off, would this not be allowed? I've really never used mod_rewrite before, so I'm a bit lost!

You should be able to just put the ads in the theme so it appears on each page by default.

No, I want to use mod_rewrite to ensure the user can't remove them - if it's possible to use mod_rewrite like that here.

I don't think you can do it with only mod_rewrite, you'd need a script aswell. You would need to send all requests to this script, put the advert in this script then include the requested page.

If you're trying to add an advert to every page, you might want to look into writing an Apache output filter (Info: http://www.onlamp.com/pub/a/apache/2.../apache_2.html ) or search the web for a premade one.

Ah, I'm afraid that'd be over my head at this moment. Thanks for sharing, though - I'll still look into it and see!
