  • AOL Email delay

I have a client that uses a form on his site to send email to his AOL account. There seems to be a problem with this, the emails are either delayed, by up to a day, or some times never received.

I originally looked at this as a script error, changing the email to an account on Gmail, and to another account on Hotmail. Both of these accounts received the emails almost instantaneously (the time it took me to refresh the page).

So this to me now seems to be an issue with AOL. I submitted a ticket to support to get their views and the reply was "Perhaps AOL's mail servers have a bit too much traffic current going on which might be slowing the e-mails down." I passed this reply on to the client who the got on to AOL to see if there was an issue. AOL replied "there are no issues with their email".

I was just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this or has a view or solution to this issue.

AOL is pretty notorious for their crappy services. They're like the black sheep of internet service providers! As an ex AOL customer, I am not surprised their mail is slow. Much of their service in my opinion is slow.

I got to the bottom of this issue, it turned out AOL where blocking emails from this server.

As explained to me by Rado from the support team
The problem itself is that when people set up a forwarding to an account and it forwards even the spam. When they receive the spam, they mark it as spam but since it was forwarded by our server, it marks us as the spam orgin.
This issue was resolved by the support team contacting AOL and all emails are being delivered as they should now.
