  • Migrating from EXTERNAL cpanel to Hepsia

FAQ's and support docs talk about how we have dedicated folks that will migrate new customers from their current hosts to our Hepsia based hosting.... websites, email and such. This is FABULOUS. Hoever usually (especially with cpanel backups) migrations set up all email accounts as well, but not the actual emails themselves. Our support docs and FAQ's are unclear in the status of the actual emails and folders in email. Our exact question is if actual emails (and folders) are migrated as well?

    Thanks.

I believe that if you open a support ticket and provide the log in details for the cPanel account they will move the emails over as well.

If you wanted to do this yourself, a good tool is called imapsync (http://imapsync.lamiral.info/) You can use this tool to transfer an IMAP account from one server to another.

      Hello.

E-mails can be migrated as well, however the E-Mail Accounts have to be re-created in the Hepsia Control Panel by the client before that.

Let us know if we can assist you with anything else.

      Best Regards,
      Tom.

Thanks Tom & clivejo... that will help considerably. We can move email, but it SUCKS! We'd much rather let you guys (RSP) handle it. as far as imapsyc, that apparantly is a great tool and always comes up in conversions like this. If at all possible we RUN from command line utilities where client emails are at stake. That's why we're thrilled that RSP can do it for us.

          Hello.

There is another, easier method of migrating the E-mails:

You can easily migrate the folder using Thunderbird:

"Copying old email messages to the IMAP server using Thunderbird":

To copy email to the IMAP server, you must first configure Thunderbird to read mail from the new server (your account with us) and from your old account.

Once both accounts are configured, you must manually create the folder structure on the IMAP server.

Folders cannot be moved from the local store to the IMAP server.

However, once the folders have been created on the IMAP server, you can select all messages from the local folder and move them to the IMAP folder.

To move messages to the IMAP server, simply drag and drop them to the desired folder.

Remember, the Inbox is the root folder on IMAP - all folders must be created within it.

Note: You may see an error message displayed when moving a message stating the header and body of the message are not seperated correctly.

You can ignore this message, but it may stop the transfer process before it has completed.

In this case, you may simply go back and drag the remaining unmoved messages to the new server.

Note: Be careful not to transfer too many emails at one time. More than ~600 emails may cause the client to freeze.

Of course - this tutorial is useful for small amount of mailboxes.

          Best Regards,
          Tom.

Thanks again Tom, you guys are very helpful. We indeed use Thunderbird when we must move email ourselves, but as as you've pointed out there is a lot of monitoring and intervention required. It does work for both a small number of email boxes and certainly relatively small mail boxes. We've also encountered throttling issues from either source or destination host when migrating larger mailboxes. All this illustrates what a valuable service you offer your resellers!
