  • UK Data Center Capacity Upgrade

    Dear Partners,

We would like to inform you about an upcoming large-scale, two-week-long UK data center expansion. It has been made necessary by the increasing demand for additional data center capacity.

Here is a general schedule of the procedures that will be performed:

    1. We will set up new server racks, upgrade the network and add new DDoS/flood protection devices. We expect the downtime to take about one hour.
    2. Once this is done, we will begin migrating servers to our new data center hall, starting with storage servers. Each storage server will be down for approximately 30 minutes.
    3. The next step will be to migrate our mail servers. Again, the expected downtime is 30 minutes per server.
    4. And last, but not least, we will set up brand-new web servers. The expected downtime per web server is about 5 minutes.

This is a major upgrade, which will result in a much better overall user experience and we do hope that you will all appreciate it!

The sad thing is that we are forced to work only during business hours because of our data center’s security policies.

The procedure will start on Tuesday, July 7th, at 9 AM UTC, and it is planned to be completed by Friday, July 17th.

The expected total downtime during this entire period is about 4 hours, but you have our word that we will do our best to get this done much faster for your convenience’s sake.

Thank you for your time and understanding on this matter!

I will be keeping my fingers and toes crossed that the downtime will be kept to a minimum and nothing unexpected happens.

          *shakes head*

How hard can it be to move a few servers?

Put one under each arm, wrap the wires around your neck and run to the new data rack You should be glad you are indoors in the nice air conditioned server halls!

Yeah, especially if you aren't there to supervise! They are probably connected up to the network backbone and playing on-line games!
